Item Shops are marketplaces created by various players and groups on 2b2t with the intention of selling or trading various items to other players in game. These item shops became more widespread due to the various dupes on the server and are very common to find through 2b2t chat and various discord servers.

History

Item shops mostly came to exist following the Rusher War in late 2016; however there have been instances of player shops before the June 2016 influx. With the advent of large scale duplication glitches such as the 11/11 dupe, the donkey dupe, and various others, players often found themselves with dupe stashes so large, it would be impossible for a single player to use all of it. During the 11/11 dupe, the first major dupe to be available to the post June population, players began to sell any extra powerful armor, crystals, and other combat related items. However, it was not until the donkey dupes where shops began to expand their inventories to building and miscellaneous items. Common advertisements seen in 2b2t chat and various discords would soon follow. At this point shops tended to organize their items into "kits", in which they rename and organize shulker boxes filled with items.

Shops eventually got their hands on various illegal items, such as alpha leaves and spawners. Stacked armor, discovered and sold by Kinorana, would become common product during the 11/11 dupe. With 32K Weapons, also rediscovered by Kinorana, AlphaComputer would begin to sell these weapons at very high prices. However, it would not be long until other shops would acquire these weapons and begin duping and selling them for mere pennies due to market abundance.

Behavior

Early shop behavior was more primitive and mostly operated in-game rather than in intricate Discord servers or websites. They were also more prone to trading rather than using real life currency and act much less like real world businesses. This would change in late 2016 as most shops tend to sell their items for real money, with shops intended for specifically trading items becoming less common. Branding became much more prevalent with stylized kits and advertising campaigns.

Many of these shops are usually marketed towards newer players, with some taking advantage of misconceptions and exaggerating the harsh 2b2t environment in advertising. Shop owners tend to purchase bot accounts used to spam 2b2t chat with advertisements to discord servers and websites. They also tend to purchase various unused discord servers with multiple users to give the impression of a largely successful and popular shop to attract attention and a sense of trustworthiness.

Much like businesses in the real world, shops on 2b2t tend to be very competitive with each other in the market. They usually compete by either lowering prices and using different marketing gimmicks, such as reduced cost bundles of items, or attempt to destroy other shop stashes in order to have less competition. Many shops place purchasing limits in order to ensure that transactions are "worthy" of delivery. Delivery is usually done by the various "employees" of the shop. Shop owners tend to reward these couriers with free items or a cut of the payments. Couriers can either meet up with the client in game or stash the items in a safe location for later pick up, usually near spawn and in naturally generated chests to reduce suspicion, curiosity, and potential theft. Certain shops have experimented with using automated bots to deliver orders to create a more efficient system and reduce the likely hood of attack in transit.

Scamming tends to be a concern by many in the community and it is usually advised to not purchase from any item shop. However, others argue that there is no real purpose to commit fraud as shops are making profit over otherwise valueless digital items and would not risk to receive poor reviews from clients. Based on the success of various item shops, which, according to various shop owners, can receive several orders for items every week, scamming tends to be relatively low in the market, however, it does not completely rule it out.

Item shops have also received criticism due to creating a sort of pay to win environment on the server. Any new player can simply follow a discord link or website to a shop and purchase all the necessary gear to survive on the server, which in turn leads to server population complaints as the "natural deterrents" of the server have been bypassed.

As item shops tend to sell digital items on a Minecraft server, there have been discussions of whether these shops conflict with Minecraft's EULA. However, seeing as there are several of these shops and that 2b2t server itself is not conflicting with Minecraft's EULA, it is extremely unlikely that Mojang/Microsoft would seek out any form of punishment against these individual players, as there has been no record of this sort of punishment outside of actual Minecraft server owners. Fit has also speculated that illegal items are a sort of loophole as illegal items are technically modifications of the vanilla items owned by Mojang/Microsoft.

In recent times, some shops have begun creating websites rather than using discord servers. A recent scandal with the shop "ShulkerRoad" had revealed that the website had leaked transaction emails and a corrupt admin had been attempting to dox and ddos players, causing a larger concern over trust of shop websites.

Items Sold By Shops

This is a general list of various items that have been sold by various shops.

Common Items

• Vanilla Items - Just about all vanilla Minecraft items are available for purchase from various stores including building blocks, combat items (armor, weapons, totems, golden apples, crystals, etc.), and any other miscellaneous or niche item available in game.
• Illegal items - Although many of these items have been patched by HauseMaster, whatever items remain available continue to be commonly sold.
• Map Art
• Base/Stash Coordinates
• Player Specific Items - These include books, banners, gear and other valuables owned by specific players. Depending on the notability of the player, these items can vary in price and rarity.

Uncommon Items

• Player accounts - During the Rusher War and over a year later, many players would attempt to sell player accounts that had joined the server before June 1st, 2016, as these accounts would have access to veteran queue. Once HauseMaster had removed veteran queue on December 4th, 2017, selling player accounts became mostly obsolete, with the only means of selling them being alternate accounts that had large amounts of gear in their inventory. However, this method also became mostly obsolete and outdated in favor of simpler purchases.
• Exploits - Various shops have attempted to sell guides to preforming exploits, mostly dupe glitches.
• Hacked clients - Some shops are made specifically to advertise custom clients available for purchase. These tend to be uncommonly sold/purchased as many free or better clients may exist and a caution of potential backdooring.
